Academic Support Services

One of our primary goals is to ensure that student-athletes are meeting University and NCAA standards while making appropriate progress toward a Boston University degree. In cooperation with the Compliance Office, academic progress is monitored through communication with faculty and academic advising staffs, distribution and review of mid-semester progress reports, and meetings with student-athletes.

All student-athletes are encouraged to take advantage of the quiet study environment that the Academic Support Center provides. Study hall is monitored to provide structure and ensure that studying is taking place. The number of hours per week a student-athlete is required to attend study hall is dependent upon each coach's individual criteria and team policy.

Student-Athlete Support Services, in cooperation with the Educational Resource Center, provides student-athletes with individual tutors in most subject areas. In addition, weekly group tutoring sessions and walk-in assistance for select subject areas are available in the ASC during evening study hall hours.

The balancing act for student-athletes often revolves around time spent competing and traveling. Student-athletes are encouraged to speak with their professors well in advance of possible academic and athletic schedule conflicts, and they are provided with letters for professors verifying travel and competition dates. In addition, laptop computers are available for student-athletes to sign-out for academic use when they are traveling for athletic competition.
