BU Student-Athletes Lend Helping Hand to Habitat for Humanity

BOSTON - Earlier this month, the Boston University Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) participated in a Build Day for Habitat for Humanity, Greater Boston. Established in 1987, Habitat Greater Boston has built or renovated 55 homes with families in need. In 2004, construction began in Dorchester at Blue Hills Place, the highest-density urban Habitat project in the nation and the future home of 22 families.

The SAAC group, consisting of nine student-athletes, spent the day performing a variety of construction tasks on a single-family residence. In conjunction with their Build Day, SAAC also made a $500 donation from money raised through fundraising efforts during the winter sports season.

Among SAAC’s participants were Jed Prescott (golf), Ashley Parker (field hockey), Mike Galorenzo (wrestling), Hannah Barry (golf), Kara Veneck (golf), Staci Hannebrink (golf), Haley Goucher (golf), Jessica Lortie (ice hockey) and Chad Comroe (soccer).
