Women's Ice Hockey Partakes in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

BOSTON - The Boston University women's ice hockey team joined forces with Hockey East on Oct. 15 to support the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. The Terriers, along with Rhett and members of the Northeastern women's ice hockey team, attended the event on the Esplanade in Boston. The six-mile walk starts and ends at the DCR Hatch Memorial Shell and winds around the Charles River.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the nation's oldest and largest one-day fundraiser. It is one of the American Cancer Society's opportunities to raise awareness of and money for breast cancer research. Over 36,000 people turned out for the event, which included 6,000 survivors, and over $3,000,000 was raised for the American Cancer Society.

Boston University and Hockey East will continue their combined efforts to support breast cancer awareness throughout the 2006-07 season. On Jan. 27, BU will host Skating Strides, an event to benefit the American Cancer Society in conjunction with their home contest versus Maine.
