Nancy Lyons, who had worked in the University's athletics department from 1984-93, returned to the department in July 2004 and now serves as BU's senior associate athletic director for compliance and student services. She was named senior woman administrator in August 2005.

Prior to her return, she served as the associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator at Northwestern University since 1996.

Among Lyons's responsibilities at Boston University will be to oversee the athletic department's compliance with the rules of the NCAA and the Terriers' athletic conferences. In addition, she will be responsible for the management of a number of varsity sports.

During her initial tenure with the athletic department, she served in a number of administrative roles from 1984 through 1986 when she was named the department's assistant business manager. Then, after serving in that position for three years, she was promoted to the athletic facilities manager in 1989.

Four years later, in July 1993, Lyons moved to Southern Connecticut State University where she was the associate director of athletics/senior woman administrator.

In November 1996, she was named the associate director of athletics for intercollegiate services/senior woman administrator at Northwestern. While there, she was in charge of compliance, while she also served as the liaison for the Department of Athletics with the University's admissions, financial aid, and registrar's offices. She was also responsible for eight of the University's sports.

In addition, from July 2002 until her return to Boston University, she was a member of the NCAA Division 1 Management Council and was a past member of the NCAA Division 1 Championships and Competition Cabinet.

A 1976 graduate of Bridgewater State College, she received her Ed.M. in policy, planning, and administration from Boston University in 1989. From 1994-96, she did post-graduate work in counseling at Southern Connecticut State University.

An ardent runner, Lyons has qualified for and completed 14 Boston Marathons and completed eight other marathons in various cities.
