Executive Director of Athletics

Boston University '68

Jack Parker, whose career with Boston University spans nearly four decades, was named the University's first Executive Director of Athletics in April 2002. Recognized primarily for his accomplishments as the Terriers' hockey coach since 1973, Parker continues to guide the B.U. hockey program.

Parker, who serves as the chief strategist, advocate, and spokesman for varsity athletics at Boston University, also works closely with Assistant Vice President/Athletics Director Athletic Mike Lynch in the strategic issues involving the athletic department. Parker has also focused his attention on the fund raising efforts for the University's ambitious plans centering on the John Hancock Student Village complex, in particular the Harry Agganis Arena. The Arena, which serves as the home of the Terrier hockey team, seats 6300 fans for hockey will January 3, 2005. A multi-purpose state-of-the-art facility, the Arena will also host concerts, ice shows, and Terrier basketball games.

A native of Somerville, Parker was named the Terriers' varsity hockey coach on December 21, 1973. During his illustrious career, he has won more than 700 games, one of just four coaches to reach that lofty plateau. No college hockey coach has won more games at the same institution that Coach Parker, while his winning percentage ranks among the top three among all active Division 1 coaches. His teams have won 20 or more games in 20 seasons, while 19 of his teams have advanced to the NCAA Tournament. In the NCAAs, Parker has posted 24 wins, the most of any Division 1 coach. His teams have won a combined total of 40 championships including two NCAA Division 1 titles, a record 17 Beanpots, five Hockey East titles, and four ECAC titles.

Over the years, 19 of Parker's players have played in the Olympics, including four members of the 1980 U.S. Team that won the Gold Medal in Lake Placid. In addition, over 40 of his players have played in the National Hockey League. Of that group, seven were first-round draftees including Rick DiPietro, who was the number one pick overall in the 2000 draft.

Parker also enjoyed outstanding success as a player. He was the MVP of his Catholic Memorial High School team his senior year and went on to star for the 1966-68 Terrier teams. They had a combined record of 72-22-4, won three Beanpots, and advanced to the NCAA twice. He was captain of the team his senior year and received the Bennett McInnis Award for team spirit.

Twice named the NCAA Coach of the Year, Parker was inducted into the Boston University and Beanpot Halls of Fame, Parker was presented an honorary Doctorate of Letters degree from Boston University in 1997 for all he has accomplished at his alma mater.

Married to the former Jacqueline Gibson of Wellesley, Parker has two daughters-Allison and Jacqueline and two grandsons, Jake and Shane.
