Alan Weinberger, whose involvement with the Boston University athletic program goes back more than 30 years, was named Assistant Athletics Director in 1996. In his current position, he oversees the athletic facilities including Walter Brown Arena, Nickerson Field, the Case Gymnasium, Faneuil Pool, the Terriers' softball field, and the Track and Tennis Center. His responsibilities include scheduling of all athletic practices and camps, coordinate all athletic game management, athletic liaison with the campus police department, catering for special events, parking services and physical plant, and scheduling and billing of all Walter Brown Arena ice rentals. In addition, he serves as the event manager for all special events at the venues mentioned above and coordinates all athletic banquets. Weinberger, who received his BA in psychology from Boston University in 1974 and an M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling from B.U. in 1976, was a three-year letterman as a goalkeeper for the Terrier soccer team. He still holds the school record for saves in a game with 34 in a 1-0 loss to Babson on September 30, 1972. After graduating, Weinberger spent two years teaching for the veteran's program at Newbury College. Then, in 1976, he returned to his alma mater as the assistant facilities manager. He remained the assistant until 1993 when he was promoted to the head position, and, three years later, his title was changed to Assistant Athletics Director of Facilities. In addition, Weinberger has taught in the Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation in the University's Sargent College. Weinberger and his wife, Mary Beth, reside in Boston. |
