Ask the AD Responses - October
What inspired the Red Hot Hockey event against Cornell at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 24? We thought that it would be a great opportunity to revive one of college hockey's oldest rivalries in an amazing venue. Madison Square Garden is considered one of the top arenas in the world, some place that should be perfect for such a high-intensity game. It is also an ideal location, with so many Boston University and Cornell fans living in the tri-state area, including about 60,000 combined alumni. We saw it as a chance to bring one of the biggest games of the year to the national stage and as a fantastic showcase for college hockey in the world's largest media market. What is the history behind the BU-Cornell rivalry? The Boston University-Cornell rivalry has an epic past dating back to Jan. 10, 1925. On that day, the Terriers fought to a 7-2 win, sparking a rivalry that includes nearly 30 games and two meetings in the NCAA Championship. We intend to revitalize the competition, with two more games scheduled after the Madison Square Garden games at each of the schools. Both BU and Cornell have produced a great deal of hockey history. Our two schools have combined to send nearly 80 players to the NHL, with players like Rick DiPietro, Chris Drury and Keith Tkachuck from BU and Ken Dryden and Joe Nieuwendyk from Cornell. The teams have also won a combined six NCAA championships. What's the easiest way to get tickets? Are there packages available including travel accommodations? Boston University is excited to offer a travel package for the game at Madison Square Garden. The package includes Amtrak transportation to New York, hotel accommodations at Hotel Roger Williams, and a ticket to the Boston University-Cornell game on Nov. 24 at Madison Square Garden. For more information, please visit goterriers.com. Otherwise, tickets are also available on ticketmaster or through the Boston University Ticket Office. Nearly 14,000 tickets have already been sold to fans. It's going to be a great night!
