Lowe Receives Men's Basketball MVP Honors; Holland Named Rookie of the Year

April 23, 2008

BOSTON - Sophomore guard Corey Lowe (Newton, Mass.) was named the 2008 Boston University men's basketball Most Valuable Player at the team banquet last week. Five other Terriers received yearly program honors as well.

Lowe was the team's leader in scoring average (18.1 ppg), assists per game (3.3) and 3-point percentage (37.1). A two-time America East Player of the week, he received second-team All-America East honors after a season that saw him shatter BU's single-season 3-pointers made record, tallying 92 for the year and besting Mark Daly's record of 79 set in 1991-92. He finished 12th in the nation with 3.54 made threes per game.

Freshman John Holland (Bronx, N.Y.) turned in one of the finest freshman seasons in BU history to earn team Rookie of the Year recognition. The six-time America East Rookie of the Week was named the 2008 America East Rookie of the Year and a member of the third-team all-conference and all-defensive teams. He was the team's second-leading scorer with 11.4 ppg and 5.0 rpg - second on the team as well. Holland's 38 points against Hartford on Feb. 28 were a Roof record as well as a Terrier rookie mark for most points scored in a single game.

The squad's Defensive Player of the Year award went to sophomore Scott Brittain (Oakville, Ont.). He tallied 10.0 ppg to rank third on the team in scoring, and his team-high 6.3 rpg stood him seventh in the America East. Brittain led BU in blocks (32) and was third in steals (28).

Red-shirt junior Matt Wolff (Walpole, Mass.), who sat out the majority of the last two years with knee injuries, was named the Most Improved Player. He played in all 31 games and started 23. Wolff shot 41.1 percent from the floor to average 5.6 ppg and grabbed 4.3 rpg. He was second on the team with 33 steals.

Sophomore Tunde Agboola (Springfield, Mass.) earned the Steve Wright Academic Award named for a former Terrier who was an academic All-American. Agboola is an electrical engineering major who has made the Dean's List in each semester at BU. He has a cumulative GPA of over 3.7.

The Reggie Stewart Award recognizes the spirit, dedication and commitment Stewart displayed while playing for the Terriers from 1988-91. This year the award was presented to junior Marques Johnson (Hazlet, N.J.). The point guard set season-highs in every statistical category this year. His 83 assists were second on the team, and Johnson ranked second in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.13).
