David M. LeFebvre (CAS/SMG '90) enters his 10th year as the freshman coach in 2008.
The 2007 freshman's men's crew had a very good season, highlighted by a third-place finish at the IRAs by the 4+ and at the Head of the Charles in the Youth Four. The freshman crew finished with a 5-3 mark, putting both eights into the Grand Finals at Eastern Sprints. The crew started out the fall by winning the Green Monster Invitational at Dartmouth.
While an undergrad at BU, Coach LeFebvre was freshman co-captain, stroke of the first freshman boat, and won gold and silver medals at the Head of the Charles.
After graduating Boston University, he enrolled at Harvard's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences but stopped his studies in 1994 to train full-time for the U.S. National Team.
Coach LeFebvre was a member of the national team from 1993-1997 and is an eight-time national champion in both sculling and sweep rowing.
LeFebvre still competes in master's regattas. In 2001, he won five gold medals at the FISA Master's World Championships. Four years later he won two gold medals at the USRowing Master's National Championships.
Coach LeFebvre wanted to try the sport from the other end of the megaphone after retiring from elite rowing. In the spring of 1997 he assisted head coach Rodney Pratt as a volunteer coach for the varsity third eight.
Since joining the coaching staff full time as the freshman coach, Coach LeFebvre's crews have won medals at the Head of the Charles, Head of the Schuylkill, Head of the Connecticut and IRA National Championships. In May of 2002, his first freshman eight was named "EARC/ECAC Crew of the Week" for the final week of the season following four open water victories in seven days.
Coach LeFebvre is a USRowing Level 3 Certified Coach and has presented seminars on proper technique at the USRowing Annual Convention.
