Men's Crew Faces Off Against Columbia, Syracuse Saturday
April 24, 2008
BOSTON - Boston University men's crew travels to upstate New York in search of the Conlan and Lusins cups on Saturday, April 26 when the Terriers race Syracuse and Columbia. For the last two years, Syracuse has won the Conlan Cup, while Columbia currently holds the Lusins Cup. This will be the 14th installment of the race for the Lusins Cup. Last year, Columbia broke a string of five straight BU wins. The Terriers have claimed the trophy in eight of the 13 years it has been contested. The Conlan Cup has been raced annually since 1983 with Syracuse holding a narrow edge in victories, 14-10. All three crews competed last weekend and each was victorious in its races. Boston University defended the Bill Cup, retaining it for the third straight year by defeating Dartmouth and Rutgers in New Brunswick, N.J. Columbia earned row2k.com Crew of the Week honors after winning the Blackwell Cup (with Yale) for the first time since 1941 and the Maxwell Stevenson Cup (Navy) for the first time since 1963. Syracuse claimed the Goes Trophy for the third straight year - a program first - when the Orange defeated Navy and Cornell. All three crews are ranked in this week's USRowing coaches poll - Columbia is No. 7 followed by Syracuse at No. 11 and Boston University at No. 17. The Terriers close out the dual season with a full weekend of racing May 3-4. BU hosts George Washington on May 3 and Wisconsin (with MIT) for the Jablonic Cup on May 4. Conlan/Lusins Cups Lineups
