Boston University men's crew recruits from high school and junior rowing programs all over the world. The program has had rowers/scullers from all 50 states, Canada, Europe, South America, Asia, Africa and Australia.
A perennial nationally ranked power, BU races against the best competition anywhere. In the Fall, the Terriers compete in the Head of the Charles, the Dartmouth Invitational and the Foot of the Charles. In the Spring, BU races in the EARC (Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges) against the finest crews in the Eastern United States. We compete annually against Brown (Michalson Cup), Northeastern (Arlett Cup), Dartmouth & Rutgers (Bill Cup), Columbia (Lusins Cup), Syracuse (Conlan Cup), and Wisconsin (Jablonic Cup). Recently the schedule has included dual races against Yale, Oregon State and Holy Cross and includes George Washington for the first time this year. The season culminates at the EARC Sprints ("Eastern Sprints") and then the IRA Collegiate National Championship Regatta against the finest crews in the United States. Exceptional crews finish their season at the Henley Royal Regatta. Many of our athletes then go on to compete at the international level.
Ideally, BU looks for rowers over 6'1", however, the most important thing is desire and a love of the sport. While BU does not have a formal lightweight program, some of its finest athletes are lightweights.
Athletic financial aid is available for the outstanding student-athlete and interested candidates should fill out the Prospect Questionnaire, participate in the Junior National Team testing protocols and send a letter explaining their desire (video is a plus).
