Wilson became the fifth player in BU history to be named Hockey East Rookie of the Year.

March 20, 2008

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Freshman Colin Wilson was named the Pro Ambitions Hockey East Rookie of the Year and Boston University took up nearly half of the conference's First-Team All-Stars, as announced at the league's annual banquet at the Royal Sonesta Hotel Boston on Thursday evening. Senior forwards Bryan Ewing and Pete MacArthur and junior defenseman Matt Gilroy were all selected to the league's top squad.

It was the second time in as many years that the Terriers had three representatives on the All-Star Team and just the third time ever.

Wilson joined classmate Kevin Shattenkirk on the Hockey East All-Rookie Team and junior Chris Higgins was named the recipient of the Len Ceglarski Sportsmanship Award.

Ewing, who was honored as the Hockey East Scoring Champion after tallying 35 points (13g, 22a) during league play, also was the recipient of the Humboldt Storage and Moving "Three Stars" Award after accumulating the most post-game star accolades during the course of the season.

Ewing was the runner-up for CCM/RBK Hockey East Player of the Year, an award that was given to senior Kevin Regan of New Hampshire. Vermont's Kevin Sneddon was named the CCM/RBK Coach of the Year.

Wilson is the fifth Terrier to earn the Rookie of the Year award and the second in the last three years (Brandon Yip, 2006). He enters the league semifinals with 35 points on 12 goals and 23 assists and he tied for the lead amongst freshmen in points per game during conference play.

Ewing and MacArthur became the first Terrier duo to finish 1-2 outright in the league scoring race during conference play. MacArthur was right behind Ewing's 35-point total with 34 (14g, 20a). While Ewing's selection to the all-star squad was the first of his career, MacArthur earned all-star honors for the third straight year after collecting second-team accolades in each of the last two seasons.

Gilroy became the first defenseman in 11 years to be named to the All-Star First Team in consecutive seasons, as BU's Jon Coleman was the last to achieve the feat. This season, Gilroy tied for the league lead with a +16 rating against conference opponents.

Shattenkirk tallied 14 points (4g, 10a) in league play to tie for the lead amongst freshman defenseman.

Higgins was tied for 13th in scoring during conference play with 24 points (10g, 14a) and committed only three penalties.

Sophomore Brian Strait was the runner-up to New Hampshire's Joe Charlebois for the Old Time Hockey Best Defensive Defenseman award, while classmate Luke Popko was a runner-up for the Best Defensive Forward award, which was given to Boston College's Matt Greene.
