Scott Black will join the Boston University men's soccer staff for the 2007 season after serving as an assistant at Virginia Tech for one year.
The native of Nottingham, England brings plenty of experience to BU, playing four years at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and spending five years as an assistant coach at Penn State.
While with the Hokies, Black served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Last season, Virginia Tech went 11-8-1 overall and reached the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Black's focus at PSU was on the goalkeeping corps, and he helped lead the Nittany Lions to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen twice and the Elite Eight once. Penn State won the 2002 and 2005 Big Ten titles and won the conference regular season championship once.
A four-year varsity starter at Wisconsin-Green Bay, he was a three-year all Mid-Western Collegiate Conference selection as a central midfielder. Black graduated from UW-GB in 2000 with his bachelor's degree in communication and public relations with a minor in human development. He completed his Master's of Education degree at Penn State in 2006 in adult education.
Black was captain of the USL D3 Pro-League Cape Cod Crusaders organization following his collegiate career. He also served as director of media & public relations for Mass Pro Soccer in Boston, Mass.
Black holds the Premiere, Advanced National and National Coaching Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
