Women's Swimming and Diving Holds First; Men Remain in Second at AE Championships

ORONO, Maine - The Boston University women's swimming and diving team held the top spot at the 2008 America East Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday night. The men's squad maintained second place with one final day of competition remaining on Sunday. Law student Eric Carlson set a school record in the 100 breaststroke, while the men's 400-medley relay team also broke the program mark.

Carlson swam to a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a school-record time of 55.84. The relay team of sophomore Jeff Wurm, Carlson, freshman Matt Rickett and sophomore Arik Seiler finished in 3:23.15, breaking the previous school record set in 1990. Seiler later picked up second place in the 200 free (1:40.12).

Sophomore Tyson Slesnick, freshman Kyle Ernst and senior Greg Dierksen picked up third, fourth and fifth place finishes in the 400 IM. In the diving events, freshman Tanner Knorr was victorious on the 3-meter board with a score of 304.45, while junior Andre Watson placed second with a score of 292.70.

In the women's 400 IM, sophomore Brigette O'Shaughnessy, junior Christina Ruggiero and freshman Clara Van Allen took second, third and fourth place, earning valuable points for the Terriers. Sophomore Emily Munday won the 100 fly in 56.98, while junior Eve Kinsella continued with her strong championship performances with a second-place in the 200 free (1:50.93). Sophomore Sarah Doersam placed second in the 100 back (58.37).

 

 

The 2008 swimming and diving champions will be crowned on Sunday in Orono, Maine.
