Women's Indoor Track Finishes Sixth at ECAC Championship; Men Take 43rd at IC4A Championship

BOSTON - The Boston University women's indoor track team finished sixth out of 28 teams over the weekend at the ECAC Championship at the Reggie Lewis Center, while the men's team finished 43rd of 46 teams at the IC4A Championship at the Track and Tennis Center. Senior Andrea Walkonen finished third, earning a provisional NCAA qualification in the 5000m, and senior Anne Wighton took seventh in the 1000m.

Syracuse took the ECAC Championship with 29 points, followed by Harvard (16), Connecticut (14.50), Sacred Heart (13), Providence (13) and Boston College and BU tied for sixth with 12 points.

Walkonen ran a 16:38.02 5000m, while Wighton's had a 2:52.51 time in the 1000m. Sophomore Whitney Ford (7.70) placed 12th in the 60m and senior Tahari James (7.75) finished 15th, also capturing third in the long jump with a 5.99m distance.

Georgetown won the IC4A Championship with 86 points, followed by Liberty (67), Deleware State (45) and Manhattan (38) rounding out the top four. BU tied with Marist and Pittsburgh for 43rd with two points.

Freshman Joel Senick finished fourth in the 400m with a 48.32 time, while senior Chadd Steinhauser (1:03.74) placed 13th in the 500m and sophomore Jan Bicanic took 19th in the shot put with a 14.91 distance.

 

 

Next weekend, the Terriers will send representatives to the NCAA Championship in Fayetteville, Ark.
