Six Terriers Set to Join BU Group at Katrina Relief Urban Plunge

March 8, 2008

BOSTON - Six members of the Boston University field hockey team departed for New Orleans on Friday to spend their spring break participating in the Katrina Relief Urban Plunge, a week-long effort to help rebuild homes that were devastated by the 2005 hurricane.

Juniors Lizzie Perreault and Haley Robinson, sophomores Amanda Smith and Maryette Stuart, and freshmen Kim Kastuk and Allie Dolce all made the trip, along with other BU student-athletes.

The trip is made possible through InterVarsity (IV) Christian Fellowship, an interdenominational campus ministry across the United States. InterVarsity has arranged the trip over the last two spring breaks since Hurricane Katrina hit, and different schools from around the country have gone to New Orleans to help with the rebuilding process.

Tours of the city accompany the community service that will take place, and most evenings involve discussions on what was accomplished during the day and the societal issues that participants will face in New Orleans such as poverty, class, race, service, and what can be done to improve tem.
