March 22, 2008
Albany, N.Y. - The No. 16/15 Boston University lacrosse team earned its third consecutive win Saturday, as the Terriers defeated Albany, 15-2, at John Fallon Field. Senior co-captiain Molly Collins and junior Sarah Dalton led all scorers with four goals each, while junior Steph Walker notched three goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Klein made 10 saves and collected two ground balls. The Terriers (5-2, 2-0 AE) shutout the Great Danes in the first half, racking up a nine-goal lead before Albany (5-3, 0-1 AE) got on the board 1:14 into the second. All four of Collins's goals came in the first half, while sophomore Xan Weitzel earned two of her game-leading four assists in the half. Collins and Walker combined for two scores in 15 seconds, as the latter scored off a free-position opportunity and Collins followed up with a goal off the draw control. After Albany notched its first goal, the Terriers produced another run to score five goals, including two from both Dalton and Walker, before the Great Danes notched their second and final goal. Freshman Alyssa Kovach closed the day's scoring, notching her second career goal, with the first coming in yesterday's win over Binghamton. BU held the advantage in every category, gathering 23 ground balls to Albany's 19 and winning the battles in draw controls (11-8), shots (34-13) and caused turnovers (12-7).
After a successful road trip, over which the Terriers took conference victories over Binghamton and Albany, BU returns to Nickerson Field Wednesday for a game against cross-town rival Boston College at 4:00 p.m. |
