March 24, 2008
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - After an impressive week in which the No. 16/15 Boston University women's lacrosse team won three games, including two America East competitions, junior Sarah Dalton and sophomore Rachel Klein were named the America East Player and Defender of the Week, respectively, as was announced by the conference Monday. Dalton notched four goals and an assist in each of the team's games while Klein totaled 25 saves while only allowing 17 goals. The Terriers earned a 10-7 win over No. 10/17 Yale Wednesday, followed by road victories against Binghamton Friday and Albany Saturday. Klein made nine and 10 saves, respectively, over the weekend, including the 15-2 victory over the Great Danes. The sophomore ranks second in America East with a .497 save percentage, while her 9.12 goals against average is good for fifth best in the conference. Klein is enjoying her first season as the full-time starting goalkeeper, after making only three starts last year as a freshman. Dalton scored key goals against Yale Wednesday, notching two in a row to help the Terriers to a four-goal lead. Her early scores also assisted BU in building a 14-1 advantage over Albany midway through the second half on Saturday. Despite missing the first two games of the season with an injury, Dalton leads the conference with 3.50 goals per game, totaling 21 and tying senior co-captain Lauren Morton for most on the team. She has notched multiple goals in five of the six games in which she has competed, including five against No. 10 Vanderbilt on March 12.The junior was named to Inside Lacrosse's Top Twenty Players in D-I Lacrosse before the season began and was also named one of 44 players on the preseason watch list for the Tewaaraton Trophy.
The Terriers will look to extend a three year winning streak against cross-town rival Boston College Wednesday, as BU hosts the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. at Nickerson Field. |
