Four Terriers Named to Soccer Buzz All-Northeast Region Teams
Dec. 28, 2007
BOSTON - Junior Marisha Schumacher-Hodge headlined the Boston University women's soccer team's honorees as a Soccer Buzz Northeast Region First Team member. She was joined by sophomores Emily Pallotta and Casey Brown on the second team and Lina Cords on the all-freshman team. Schumacher-Hodge (Pittsburgh, Pa.) continued to rake in the postseason honors following a standout junior campaign where the midfielder earned NSCAA All-Northeast Region Third Team honors and NEWISA All-New England Second Team accolades. She led the team in points (14) on four goals and six assists, while collecting America East All-Conference First Team accolades. She tallied the game-winning goal against Binghamton in the conference semifinals. Pallotta (Andover, Mass.) was recently named to the NEWISA All-New England Second Team after scoring four goals and one assist during the 2007 season. She picked up game-winners against Princeton, Stony Brook and UNH to lead the team in game-winning tallies. She also finished third on the team in points (9) and ended in a three-way tie for second in goals (4). For her efforts, Pallotta was named to the all-conference first team and the all-tournament team. Brown earned the prestigious 2007 AE Defender of the Year, after proving to be just as effective on offense as she was on defense. She led the squad in goals with five, was second on the team in points (11) and tallied two game-winners. In addition to being the conference's top defender, she also earned AE first-team honors. The Natick, Mass., native anchored a solid backline that shutout 10 opponents in 2007 - six in league play - and allowed just two goals during the conference slate. The defense helped earn a 0.59 GAA, ranking 12th nationally.
Lina Cords (Leonardtown, Md.) rounds out the list of Soccer Buzz honorees. Cords was the only freshman to start every game in 2007 and from the backline, she added two assists. Cords, a central defender, played alongside Brown on the stingy defensive line that led the conference in GAA (0.59) and shutouts (10). BU finished the season with an 11-7-3 overall record, and claimed the AE regular-season crown. After defeating UNH in the championship game, the Terriers earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tourney. BU fell, 2-1, to fourth-seeded Wake Forest in the first round. |
