Women's Swimming and Diving Remains in First; Men Drop to Second

ORONO, Maine - The Boston University women's swimming and diving team remained in first place with 304 points after the second day of the 2008 America East Swimming and Diving Championships, while the men's team dropped to second place behind UMBC. On the women's side, junior Eve Kinsella earned first place in the 200 IM with a time of two minutes, 4.79 seconds. The 200 free relay team of sophomore Brigette O'Shaughnessy, freshman Maria McIntyre, sophomore Emily Munday and Kinsella swam to a second-place finish, clocking in at 1:36.46. Junior Tess Waresmith won her second event of the weekend with a commanding win on the one-meter board with a score of 258.55. Classmate Alex Crerar placed second (246.30). BU separated itself from the pack with 304 total points and was followed by UMBC (274), UNH (250), Vermont (186), Maine (156), Binghamton (153) and Stony Brook (94). On the men's side, sophomore Arik Seiler placed fourth in the 500 free with a time of 4:32.87. Sophomore Ben Kaiser, senior Greg Dierksen and freshman Mark Nakanishi followed in sixth, seventh and eighth, earning valuable points for the Terriers.
BU (243) fell behind four-time defending champion UMBC (327) with two days of competition remaining. Binghamton (222), Stony Brook (206) and Maine (104) round out the field. |
