Women's Tennis Set to Defend America East Crown this Weekend

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Boston University women's tennis team is the No. 1 seed in the 2008 America East Tennis championships, which will be held from April 25-27 on Yale's campus in New Haven, Conn. The Terriers will seek to earn their 15th consecutive, and 19th overall, conference title and 10th straight berth in the NCAA tournament. BU has won the conference championship all 18 times the Terriers have entered the tournament. In the 11 years the championship has been decided by a team format, they have swept 22 of 26 matches played. BU has earned all of the America East's automatic bids to the NCAA tournament dating back to 1999. The Terriers, the No. 1 seed for the 10th straight year, will have a bye in the opening round and then will face the winner of No. 4 Stony Brook/No. 5 Albany on Saturday, April 26 at 1 p.m. The championship will be held on Sunday, April 27 at 11 a.m. America East Women's Tennis Championship April 25-27, Yale Tennis Center-- New Haven, Conn.
Friday, April 25 Match 1 -- Opening Round #4 Stony Brook vs. #5 Albany, 1 p.m. Match 2 -- Opening Round #3 Binghamton vs. #6 Hartford, 1 p.m.
Saturday, April 26 Match 3 -- Loser of Match 1 vs. Loser of Match 2, 1 p.m. Match 4 -- Winner of Match 1 vs. #1 Boston U., 1 p.m. Match 5 -- Winner of Match 2 vs. #2 UMBC, 1 p.m.
Sunday, April 27 Match 6 -- Winner of Match 4 vs. Winner of Match 5 (Championship), 11 a.m.*
*Championship match times are subject to change by the games committee if there is a team that has a dual coach. **In the event of inclement weather, match times will be adjusted as needed.
